Encounter by Ongava

Encounter by Ongava sits amongst tall mopane trees at the foot of a rocky dolomite hill in the western half of the 45,000 hectare Ongava Game Reserve. Ongava borders Etosha National Park, which, 10% bigger than Wales, is one of Africa’s largest wildlife reserves.

Accommodation & Facilities
Encounter by Ongava has eight safari tents with private verandahs. The tents, one of which is set up for a family, are huge, and have an en-suite bathroom and an outside shower, and Evening Breeze cooling systems over the beds.  The camp has a big, thatched open-fronted main building with a bar and lounge, and there’s an adjoining dining room and a small shop, and a big pool on the deck outside, which has great views of the busy waterhole. Meals are often served round the campfire or by the pool, and the camp also has a small spa.

Wildlife & Activities

Mornings are spent viewing wildlife in Etosha, and in the afternoon guests look for rhino and lion on the private reserve. Night drives and walks can be arranged on the Ongava Reserve and there are some excellent hides for wildlife viewing here too.  Guests can see a wide variety of wildlife including elephant, lion, leopard, black and white rhino, springbok, gemsbok, giraffe and red hartebeest. Birdlife around waterholes close to Ongava Tented Camp is also good with ostrich, pygmy falcon and all the raptors in abundance. Tracking rhino on foot is a highlight at Ongava.
